Governor Attorney General Keith Ellison will make a significant announcement in the case this afternoon, one of the officials said. Officials did not disclose what the decision was.
Three former officers will be seen in the video at the top of Floyd at the time of his May 25 assassination. Derek Chauvin, who had been kneeling on Floyd’s neck for about nine minutes, has been charged with third-degree murder and second-degree genocide.
Former officers Thomas Lane and J.A. Keung, who helped keep Floyd in check, and a fourth former officer, Tau Thao, who stood by the others, have not yet been charged.
Benjamin Krump, an attorney for the Floyd family, told CNN on Wednesday that he was confident other officials would be charged before a Minneapolis rally on Thursday.
“I believe that these officers will be charged before the people of Minneapolis bid a final farewell to George Floyd. He can live in peace,” he said.
