Remember the two Italian girls who turned on the internet sensation after a video of a rooftop tennis match went viral in the city of Liguria earlier this year?
13-year-old Vittoria and 11-year-old Carolla didn’t expect too much when they played on the roof in April. However, Roger Federer gave them an unexpected surprise last month because the Swiss Astana had seen them in person.
Federer was impressed by the determination of the two Italians
Federer came on their visit on 10 July, saying he was touched by the perseverance of young Italians during the COVID-19 lockdown.
“For me personally, it was a special moment in my career as a tennis player,” Federer was quoted as saying by the ATP Tour website. “Surprise any fan or kids, since I’ve been able to with Carolla and Vitoria today.”
Federer not only met them, he joined the action by marching with girls across the same roof.
“It was great. I’ve played in a lot of cool places around the world. But obviously it’s a special experience for me,” said the 36-year-old. “We showed that we can play anywhere and have fun in it. I had my best time, honestly.”
In a video shared by the ATP Tour, Federer revealed that he has one more surprise for girls. Partnering with Barilla, he is sending them to Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar for their summer camp.
The 36-year-old last played in the 2020 Australian Open, where he reached the semifinals and lost in straight sets to champion Novak Djokovic. He later announced that he would not be taking part in the French Open due to injury due to the COVID-19 epidemic and the Tu himself went on indefinitely.
