A Colorado Police Department is investigating three officers who took pictures of a chokehold driver driving police near a memorial to Elijah McClean, police said in a report Monday.
Officials allege that McClain was stopped and taken into custody by Aurora police before his death in 2019, where he was photographed, CBS Denver reported, Citing sources familiar with the investigation.
The Internal Investigation Department began investigating them, and before the investigation began, these police members were found to have spread around the Aurora Police Department.
The department’s interim police chief said in a statement late Monday night that all officers involved have had their salaries suspended pending an investigation.
“On Thursday afternoon, I was informed by the Aurora Police Officer’s Internal Affairs Report that multiple Aurora Police officers were pictured near the spot where Elijah McClean died.”
“I immediately directed internal affairs to make this investigation their highest priority. This immediate investigation has been completed this evening, ”he added.
McClean died after police stopped him in Colorado last August, when someone called 911 saying he looked suspicious.
Officers detained him using a chocold and called an ambulance, the New York Times reported.
Doctors gave him ketamine and McClean went into cardiac arrest on his way to the hospital.
He died a few days later for “scheduled” reasons.
